national donut day 2012

Today is national donut day, so Kane and I celebrated by making homemade donuts.

We read this adorable book before we headed to the kitchen.

Kane helped me pour all the ingredients into the mixing bowl.

He was able to scoop up some cake flour with his tractor while I was preoccupied preheating the oven. Little stinker!

the very hungry caterpillar

Monday, Michael and I got a big surprise... he had the whole day off! We were shocked! I instantly had our whole day planned!

Kane and I read "The very hungry caterpillar" last week and I had planned to take him to the butterfly exhibit later this week for our "event day". However, we quickly rearranged things so Michael could go with us! (thanks chelsea for the rec!)

This is what we saw when we arrived! It was such a beautiful tribute. The whole fire department was there teaching kids how to "stop, drop and roll", letting them try on their gear and putting on a puppet show. It was so hot outside that we decided to skip that and continue inside.

Kane loved seeing all the butterflies... Michael, not so much. He was afraid of them. ha!!! Sorry M, love you!

whew! look at that crazy hair! A little gel, a little sweat and who knows what it will look like!

I made his shirt a few days ago but was putting off the feet and nose until the last minute. Our spontaneous trip caught me off guard... oops!

At the very end there was a display of wind chimes that Kane got a kick out of.

When Kane and I were at Target the other day we decided to pop into the pet store since Kane has been learning about animal sounds. His favorite animal by far is a dog. Shocker, right? As we approached the puppies in the cage he started barking, ha!

This sweet puppy was tugging at my heart.

I decided that our next theme day should be about puppies. After getting a few crafts, we made it happen.

We pulled out his puppy books and read all about them.

We even stopped by Party City and got a dog balloon.

I made him a "top dog" ribbon

that he refused to wear.

We made dog bone biscuits for breakfast and

dog sugar cookies for a snack.

He even ate them out of his own dog bowl... thanks mama Poe for the idea.

We also got puppy stickers and dogs for him to color.

While he was napping, I made him this puppy shirt. We went outside later to try and find a real puppy but we did not have any luck.

I told him it was "hot" so he would blow it. It only took once for him to get the hang of it!

Happy Earth Day!

Along with being Good Friday today is also Earth Day! The forecast predicted rain today so we decided to celebrate Earth Day yesterday. I guess I should mention that it has rained for the past week and the forecast shows rain all next week. Every egg hunt i have looked into is canceled because of the bad, cold weather. I'm glad Kane is young and does not care about hunting for eggs yet.

We went to the library and picked out the only "green" book we could find.

and pouring in the seeds...not sure if any seeds are in the pot currently. He got a little wild with the mixing.

After throwing most of the dirt out he decided to put some back in the pot. We'll see if anything besides weeds grow!
